1977 Land Rover Stage 1 109" Prototype

1977 Land Rover Stage 1 109" Prototype

Chassis number: 91460676C

Registration number: THP 74R

Engine type: 3.5 V8 Petrol

Gearbox type: 4 Speed Manual

Vehicle spec:

The Stage 1 V8 was the replacement for the 6-cylinder petrol 109” and was sold between 1979 and 1982 when the 110” was introduced. This is one of the 11 known prototypes of the Stage 1 V8 109” models. These early cars were being built between early 1976 and mid-1977. As far as we know four of the prototypes still exist. This carries engine number RRB7 and still retains its original gearbox and axles. The body is still in its original paint with just the bulkhead having been painted.

In 2017/18 the vehicle underwent a sensitive rebuild by a Land Rover specialist and was due to be exported to the US, but as it had a non-standard chassis number and engine it was refused entry.

We assume it was used for hot weather testing being LHD and painted in the Export brown colour. A lot of its original features still exist such as the unique grille badge.
