Why should I become a Friend of the Collection?
The Dunsfold Collection of Land Rovers or 'Dunsfold Collection' as it is more commonly known, exists to try and preserve as much of the more unusual side of our Land Rover heritage as possible.
The aim of the Dunsfold Collection of Land Rovers is to save prototypes, pre-production and early production vehicles, trial/evaluation vehicles and the occasional specially built one off. The purchase, maintenance and in some cases restoration of the many vehicles in the Collection is mainly financed by Dunsfold DLR and the Friends of the Collection. This is where you can help, for an annual donation of £20 (£26 outside UK) you can become a Friend of the Collection. To be a Friend you don't have to be a Land Rover Guru, just someone who enjoys Land Rovers for what they are and who is interested in the preservation of some of our Land Rover heritage.
What do Friends do?
Your continued annual donation is the most important way that anyone could support the Collection, but Friends of the Collection help in the following ways;
1. Raise funds to support the development and maintenance of the Dunsfold Collection through:
2. Assist in the preparation of vehicles for display by:
3. Assist in the display of vehicles by:
What will I get out of it?
There are many benefits to becoming a member of the Dunsfold Collection.
We are not a Land Rover club as such, although we do have an active Social Section. All people who continue to support the Collection as a Friend do so because they are enthusiasts and would like to help save some of our Land Rover heritage. They may not be able to afford a collection of their own, but can share in the Dunsfold Collection, knowing that their yearly donation is going to a good cause.
We publish a quarterly newsletter covering news of vehicles and any additions to the Collection, reviews of shows and member activities, notification of forthcoming events.
When possible, we organize outings, which in the past, this has included off-road and green lane trips, military museum visits, and overseas off road trips including Belgium, France, Switzerland, and Norway.
Friends of the Collection are entitled to discount on parts and servicing at DLR, which carries parts for all models of Land Rover from Series 1 to around 2002 model year. DLR will of course mail parts to anywhere in the world.
As well as rare Land Rovers, the Collection is also custodian of the "John Parker Collection" of over 2000 Land Rover models, from the earliest to some of the latest, with some rare and strange models.
Friends also have access to an extensive archive, which can be used for personal purposes.
Then of course there is the Collection Open Weekend. This gives us the opportunity to display all the Collection vehicles in one place and for you to come along to see them and meet other Friends and like-minded enthusiasts. This is one of the best shows in the calendar.
So, why not become a Friend of the Dunsfold Collection today. Send in an application form with your donation and you will receive a membership card and a copy of our latest newsletter by return.
