VEHICLE SPEC.

The Land Rover Concept Vehicle project (LCV2), was never intended as a replacement or alternative to the Defender. It was purely a study to evaluate the viability of a lightweight construction, using a bonded aluminium monocoque shell and using as many lightweight materials as possible. Only eleven vehicles were built. Four running vehicles, 3 crash evaluation vehicles, 3 body test vehicles and a show vehicle, which was built with a styled pick up body and had a KV6 engine.

The engine is basically a modified Freelander L Series 2L diesel, mounted longditudinaly rather than transversely. The gearbox and transfer box are prototype, with synchromesh high / low change. It is fitted with coil suspension on the front and air suspension on the rear. Seating is two front and two rear. It has a 92.9" (90) wheelbase and weighs in at 1,350Kg as opposed to around 1,600Kg of a Defender 90 SW.

Apart from the pick up at the BMIHT, this is the only survivor.
