Vehicle Spec.

This is one of three vehicles built to test the ex-General Motors V8 engine, purchased in 1966 by Rover. This particular vehicle was used for high mileage testing. The odd colour is a mystery to us all but we think it was to show the Americans that, like Golden Rod, Solihull could also build a 'jazzed up' model. THE REASON FOR BUILDING THE 3 VEHICLES WAS TO EVALUATE THE ENGINE PRIOR TO FITTING INTO THE AS YET UN BUILT RANGE ROVER. AFTER TESTING IN 66/67 THE VEHICLE WAS UPDATED TO THE LATER LIGHTING SPEC, A STATION WAGON HARDTOP WAS FITTED THEN IT USED FOR COLOUR TRIALS RED AND CREAM FOR RANGE ROVER. AFTER THAT IT WAS USED AS A TEST RIG AT GAYDON FOR TYRE SKID TESTING. A FULL RESTORATION WAS CARRIED OUT IN 2009 AND THE 88 WAS PUT BACK TO ITS EARLY TESTING SPEC.
