THIS WAS ONE OF 11 PROTOTYPES BUILT TO REPLACE THE AGEING 101” FORWARD
CONTROL IN 1986. THE LOAD CAPACITY IS 1.75 TONNE, THE WHEEL BASE IS 110”,
THE AXLES ARE SIMILAR TO CIVVY 110 BUT WIDER, A LIMITED SLIP DIFF WOULD
HAVE BEEN STANDARD. THE CHASSIS IS ONE OFF, THE CAB IS FIBREGLASS CONSTRUCTION
AND TILTS FOR ENGINE ACCESS. THE REAR BODY WAS TO BE G, S. OR HARDTOP.
ONLY THE V8 ENGINE WAS OFFERED ON TRIALS VEHICLES, HENCE THE M.O.D’S RELUCTENCE
TO ACCEPT IT. STABILITY WAS ALSO A PROBLEM ON EARLY TRIALS. THIS VEHICLE
APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN ON COLD WEATHER TESTING TO SCANDINAVIA. HAD THIS
BEEN 3 YEARS LATER THE 200tdi WOULD HAVE BEEN AROUND AND THE WHOLE PROJECT
MAY HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL. THE M.O.D. ENDED UP WITH A REYNOLDS BOUGHTON
TRUCK, WHICH HAS NOT BEEN TOO POPULAR WITH ITS USERS.
